Change is in the air with springpad… see what’s coming up!

Hey springpad users! There are some big changes coming soon with springpad… We’ve been busy working on ways to make springpad simpler, better & much more fun to use.  There will be some more formal announcements over the coming week, but I thought you’d like a sneak peek.

Thanks so much for your passion over the last few months – with feature requests, usability suggestions & general suggestions for how to make springpad better.  springpad’s getting an all-over facelift! While the look, feel & interactions will be different, all of the features you’ve grown to love will still be easy to find:

Simplifying the top navigation
We’ve removed Home & renamed things a bit. My Stuff is where you can find all of the things you’re collecting. Friends Stuff helps you find things that your friends recommend. Apps is where you get things done with all of your existing notebooks – and add new ones!

Is there an App for that?
We’re finally calling springpads what they are – Apps! Just like before, you can use springpad to collect & use the things that are important to you – we’re just calling it something different. Add new apps to your springpad to help you manage your life. And if you like creating your own custom apps, you’ll still be able to start from scratch with the Notebook App. Also, we’re creating an App Directory that will have apps from us, our partners and even you (in the coming months)!

apps

Friends Stuff
Check out the things being shared by the people you follow. We’ve added Search & Filter to make it easier to find what you’re looking for from your most trusted sources.

friends stuff

The Search Bar
Get to the information you’re looking for with a quick search. It’s always been there, but now it’s way more powerful, including enhancements like narrowing your search results & seeing results from your friends’ public stuff.

Where’s the Calendar?
Don’t worry – You can now find the calendar under Apps

A new ‘control panel’ to make editing, printing & sharing easier
We’ve simplified the controls on the full page view.

That drawer thingy that loves to pop out!
The left-hand drawer will only be present when looking at Apps. And we’re simplifying the way you open/close it… You’ll just have to wait to see it!

Quickly add new things to your stuff
The new “Quick Add” bar is both smarter & cooler…

Default to Public
You’ll notice that as you add new things, some of them will default to Public. This is just to help you share the things that are super-sharable (like Recipes & Restaurants). Don’t worry, personal things like Notes, Tasks & Events are still Private by default. Plus, you can always choose to make things Private as you are adding them.

And of course there are some new features on the way, too…

Collections: You asked for it! Now you’ll be able to create ’sets’ of your springpad data. Put together collections of your favorite things & share them with your friends!
Spring It! from our partners: We’ve got some EXCITING partners adding Spring It! buttons to their websites. So, you can easily add things to your springpad as you surf the web.
We’re making it easier for you to tell your friends about your stuff: We have a bunch of new features to help you share the information in your stuff to your friends and family.

And much more… Stay tuned!

Get Organized: Wardrobe Tracker

by Lauren  on Sep 01 2009

I just moved into a new apartment and am overwhelmed by my abundance of clothing, half of which I forgot I owned. Though I love shopping and constantly ask my friends for clothing advice, I’ve accumulated quite a lot of stuff. In addition to logging my favorite outfits,  I’ve decided to start using the Wardrobe Tracker from springpad.

The wardrobe tracker has been very helpful: I cataloged all of my dresses, tops, coats and pants into separate categories. Plus, I can add photos and notes to help me keep track of everything – colors, brands, and cleaning instructions. I modified the basic template to add some other cool sections – check it out!

Spring My Wardrobe Tracker!

Has the Wardrobe Tracker simplified my life? Definitely! It’s a great way to keep track of my existing clothing so I don’t buy duplicates!

Friends are still the best source of advice

by katin  on Aug 20 2009

When looking for advice online, many people turn to specific sources – like Yelp for restaurants, Amazon for products or Hotels.com for places to stay.  These sites are chock-full of reviews from the general public, but is that where our advice-hunting ends?

I’d argue that most of us still ask our friends for advice when it comes to important decisions. Because, really, do we care what the general public says about the best plumber in town or which baby stroller to buy?  No, we value the opinion of our friends above all else.

springpad can help you access the opinions of your trusted friends.  So, the next time you’re looking for a seafood restaurant in Boston you don’t have to depend on a sea of anonymous reviews, you can check out which restaurants your friends prefer.

We are excited to announce many new additions to springpad!  Begin collecting the things you love, use them to make plans & share them with your friends.

Want to collect something else in springpad?  Let us know!

Wine: Create a wine library, add tasting notes & access on the go
For the amateur or professional wine collector, springpad makes it easy to add wines to your online library. It’s easy to add reviews, links to purchase, and tasting notes!  Whatever you might have been keeping in your wine notebook can now be stored in springpad.  And you can access it on your mobile phone at my.springpadit.com!

Hotels: Add to trip plans & share with friends
Everyone has their favorite hotel – experienced travelers have a favorite in every city!  Add them to your springpad & let your friends know what you think by sharing via email, Twitter or Facebook!  When you add hotels to springpad, you can also use them in a springpad Trip Planner.

Books: Keep a reading list & make recommendations
Keep track of which books you’ve read & those your dying to read.  Keep track of your library & record which books you’ve loaned to friends.  Let your friends know what books you’re reading by sending them a link to your profile!

Albums: Make a list of your favs & those you’d love to buy
Did your friend recently recommend a fun new band?  Or do you always have people asking you for suggestions?  Create your music library in springpad or keep your wishlist organized.  By adding your personal notes, you can let your friends know what you think of your recent purchases!

BlogHer 2009: Helping Communities Build Networks for Sharing Ideas & Advice

At BlogHer ‘09, we’ll be hosting a contest to encourage new users to sign up for springpad and invite their “Go-To Girls” to join, too! The contest is in conjunction with four of our favorite bloggers: @deliciousbaby, @momisodes, @mommyniri and @paninihappy and supported by our featured product sponsor: Magic Beans.

A Go-To Girl (or Guy) is that person you turn to when you need advice. Need an idea for a recipe for an upcoming party? Need to find out the hottest new restaurant? Need to pick out a birthday present for your nephew? The people you turn to for answers to these burning questions are your Go-To network. Using springpad makes it easy for you to connect with your network, which is likely spread across the internet, to share ideas & advice!

We look forward to seeing you at BlogHer’09 (and helping you simplify your life)!

BlogHer was founded in 2005 to create opportunities for women who blog to pursue exposure, education, community, and economic empowerment. Since then, it’s become a successful and vibrant community. We’re pleased to support these amazing women who somehow manage to balance busy lives as parents, spouses, community leaders and online mavens with springpad, our online personal organizer that helps them get things done. We’re excited to be sponsoring and exhibiting at this week’s annual conference in Chicago.

Magic beans is a locally-owned retail business in Boston, started for parents by parents with the mission of finding products that make life easier for parents and more fun for kids. As part of the 31 days of giveaways, Magic beans is giving away $10,000 worth of free products in July, anyone can enter at www.mbeans.com.
