2. Select “Settings”, then “Reader Settings” in the upper right corner of the page and then click the “Send To” tab.
3. Click the “Create a custom link” button at the bottom of the page.

1. Chicken Fried Steak at Green Mesquite BBQ & More

Though barbecue is their specialty, this atmospheric juke joint is also a great place to find one of the simple pleasures in the southern food repertoire: fried meat.

2. Shrimp and Crawfish Gumbo at Cherry Creek Catfish Co.
It’s far from coastal, but Austin is home to some pretty spectacular seafood dishes. Check out Cherry Creek Catfish Co., but don’t go with the catfish. Instead, get involved with some of the tasty sides and this stew, an acclaimed favorite among Austin foodies.

3. Frito Pie at Bert’s BBQ
If the sound of a Frito pie makes you flinch, you’re obviously not from Texas. The dish, which consists primarily of chili and cheese blanketed over a bed of Fritos, is about as emblematic of the Lone Star state as Jerry Jones. In Austin, it’s a specialty at Bert’s, a comfortable neighborhood joint that adds a blend of brisket, beans and sausage.  The restaurant is currently under construction after a fire, but Bert’s is now operating out of their Far West store in northwest Austin.

4. Brisket with Espresso Sauce at Franklin Barbecue
A highlight of southern barbecue, especially in beef-happy Texas, is beef brisket. Texans are serious about their barbecue, and Austinites are serious about Franklin Barbecue. The local mainstay does the staple dishes to perfection, but also throws in some pleasantly unusual dishes like this espresso-flavored brisket.

5. Tacos Al Pastor at Guero’s Taco Bar
They don’t call it Tex-Mex for nothing. Al pastor involves pork sliced off a rotisserie-like schwarma into a variety of dishes, from platters to quesadillas to tacos, and so on. Depending where you’re from, you’re probably closer to Mexico than you’ve been in a while. It would be a shame to leave Austin without scarfing down a few real tacos.

6. Hush Puppies at Catfish Parlour
Another catfish joint, another non-catfish dish. It’s difficult to find good hush puppies in north Texas, so you’d better give these ones a shot while you have the chance. This Austin hotspot serves the deep-fried cornmeal rolls as dipping sticks with a tangy jalapeño ranch sauce.

7. Magnum Cocktail at Texas Chili Parlor
And to wash it all down, try this monster. The Magnum at Texas Chili Parlor is basically a meal in itself. OK, it’s just a huge rum and Coke. After all, everything’s bigger in Texas. But the Texas Chili Parlor is an Austin legend, and the ideal place to end (or start) your evening.

In an effort to simplify Springpad, some features have been removed or changed.

How it works:

• When you want to remember something you come across, just save it in Springpad – products, restaurants, or books that seem interesting, wines you try at a party, things your friends recommend, or even random thoughts.
• We automatically organize and enhance what you save with useful information like directions, reviews, showtimes, menus, price comparisons, and links to make purchases and reservations.
• When you need it, it’s there for you – on your iPhone and on the web at Springpadit.com.

Lots of ways to save things:
- Simply type in a note so you don’t forget it.
- Take a photo of something that you want to rememeber.
- Add movies, wines, books and more. Springpad automatically adds useful information like addresses, prices and descriptions.
- Use GPS to find & save nearby businesses and restaurants.
- Scan a barcode of any product to save it for later.

Access your stuff when you need it:
- Access all of your saved data online and offline. All of your data is accessible without an internet connection.
- Quickly access useful information like your shopping lists, recipes and restaurants.
- Add notes & photos to your things.

Also use the web version of Springpad:
- Everything you save is automatically synchronized to the web version at Springpadit.com.
- Use the Springpad web clipper to save bookmarks, recipes, products, or anything else you find online.
- Share the things you find interesting with friends Facebook and Twitter.
- Setup email or SMS reminders.

Lists are a quick & flexible way to group anything that’s in My Stuff. Simply drag and drop things like tasks, recipes, businesses & notes.

How It Works

1. Create a List in My Stuff
2. Add anything from your collection to your list:
- Drag & drop them in from My Stuff,
- or when you’re looking at an item, click on the “Add to List” button
3. Add items to a List on the Springpad iPhone App
- Select an item & click “Add to List”
4. Refer to your list whenever you need it – on the web or on your phone

Lists were previously called Groups. Any Group that you already had in your system can now be easily accessed under “My Lists” in My Stuff.

How It Works

1. Send an email to springit@springpadit.com from the email account that you used to sign up for Springpad (you can confirm or change your email address in Settings).
2. Within a few seconds, a new note will be created in Springpad that includes the body of what you emailed. The subject of your email will become the note’s title. Any attached files will be attached to the note in Springpad.
3. If there’s a problem, Springpad will send you a reply letting you know.
4. If you would like to send your notes to a custom email address, you can find it under Settings.
- This will allow you to send notes in to Springpad from other email accounts
- This custom email address can be changed at any time
- This is the recommended technique if your email is coming from your own custom domain

Tip: Add springit@springpadit.com to your email contacts, so it’s easy to forward things into Springpad.

Limits on what can be emailed into Springpad:
- Emails sent to Springpad must be smaller than 15MB
- Attached files must be smaller than 5MB

Four ways to find people in Springpad:

1. Go directly to their profile. If you know someone’s username just go to http://springpadit.com/USERNAME

2. Search for people you know. In Friends Stuff, click on “Find More People”. Search by username, real name, or something you’re looking for (like “chocolate cake” or “Cameron Crowe”).

3. Invite your friends to join Springpad. If you send them an invite link, you’ll automatically be following each other when they sign up. Just click on “Invite People” in Friends Stuff.

4. Check out the source of your favorite things. If you’ve sprung something from another user, you can always check out who else has that item & choose to follow them.

Adding details to your items
1. We’ve removed star ratings.
2. Notes, media & links have been consolidated. If you’d like to add links, photos, videos or files to any of your items, click on “Notes”.

Adding things to My Stuff
3. Importing a recipe is a little bit different. In My Stuff, click on Recipe on the right hand side, then paste a link into the bar at the top.
4. Adding a Business or Restaurant in a specific city is slightly different. In My Stuff, click on Business or Restaurant on the right hand side, and start to type the name of what you’d like to save. Then there will be a little box that will allow you to change the location.

For those of you who use Apps
5. The “App Drawer” is only available in the Apps section. This means that if you are trying to add items to Apps, you need to do so from the Apps section itself.
6. We’ve moved the App directory. If you’d like to add an App besides a new notebook, click on “or add another app” in the drawer

If you like to use Groups
7. Groups are now called Lists. Read more about Lists.
8. Groups/Lists no longer include an intro blurb.

Changes to the clipper
9. The default way to save something is now a bookmark, not a note.
10. The clipper no longer allows you to add directly to Apps. But, you can add to Lists.

3. 2006 Milton Park Thorn-Clarke Shiraz – $8.99: The Shiraz grape is the pride of Australia. Dryer than other reds, Shiraz is a great table wine that pairs well with many types of food. The Milton Park brand has been named a Best Buy by The Wine Advocate several times and is one of the most popular inexpensive Shiraz brands.

4. 2006 McManis Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon – $10.99: The McManis family produces a reliable line of inexpensive wines. The McManis Cab is also remarkably smooth — unlike others in its price range, which tend to be quite bitter.

5. 2007 Bogle Vineyards, Chardonnay – $9.99: The Bogle family has prided itself on turning out affordable, quality wines for over 40 years. Their Chardonnay has traces of green apple and pears, pairing well with a wide set of cuisines. Wine Spectator calls it “intense and vibrant” and deemed it worthy of an 87 ranking.

6. 2006 Trumpeter Malbec – $7.80: The Argentinean Malbec grape is comparable in flavor to a Merlot, but with a bit more character. Malbecs tend to skew toward the tannic end of the spectrum. On top of its fruitier than average taste, the Trumpter Malbec also carries traces of cinnamon and pepper for a complex finish.

7. 2007 Red Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon – $8.99: Red Diamond winemaker Juan Muñoz Oca explains his wines best: “These wines aren’t meant to intimidate or mystify people; they are meant to be enjoyed.” Both novice and expert vinos will appreciate the great taste and reasonable price of a Red Diamond bottle. With hints of fruit and chocolate, the Cabernet Sauvignon is one of their biggest sellers.

13. 2008 Brander Sauvignon Blanc Santa Ynez Valley – $13.99: LA Times food critic S. Irene Virbila called this California Sauvignon Blanc a “basic for warm-weather drinking.” While Brander’s lineup generally skews toward the higher end, their Sav Blanc is a great-tasting, affordable alternative. The crisp, refreshing taste pairs nicely with seafood. She’ll be impressed.

14. 2005 Pepperwood Grove Zinfandel – $7.99: The Pepperwood winery offers a line of modestly priced options that don’t skimp on flavor, and their Zinfandel is a stand-out. Like the Cab and Pinot, a decent, affordable Zin is hard to find. But with strong hints of blackberry and spice, this big-boned red is a great deal.

15. 2004 Little Penguin Merlot – $11.99: Little Penguin’s Merlot is accessible to all, and that’s not just because of the cutesy name. Deceptively complex for an affordable Merlot, this baby has a deep front-end taste with vanilla overtones and a subtle finish.

16. 2006 Pighin Pinot Grigio Friuli – $12.69: The Pinot Grigio grape is a light Italian white varietal with a sweet-but-crisp flavor. Like Champagne, it certainly can be enjoyed on its own. The fruity Pighin Pinot also has traces of flowers and hazelnut.

17. 2004 Kendall Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – $14.95: Like Mondavi, distribution giant Kendall Jackson has many lines of white that range in quality and price. Even less expensive wines taste great, though, and this complex Cabernet Sauvignon has traces of black cherry, blackberry and vanilla.

18. Yellowtail Rosé  – $5.49: It may not earn you any masculinity points, but a nice Rosé is a great alternative to champagne when she’s in the mood to celebrate. This widely distributed Aussie brand makes a suprisingly good one that will leave you with enough dough to take her out for a night cap.

19. 2007 Chateau St. Jean Fume Blanc – $12.32: Similar to Sauvignon Blancs, Fume Blancs are known to have a crisp, sweet flavor. Chateau St. Jean may look and sound pricey on paper, but the vineyard actually produces a reasonably-priced Fume that contains traces of pink grapefruit and white tea. The Wine Spectator  gave it a 95 rating, calling it “well-balanced and wonderfully juicy.”

20. Charles Shaw Cabernet – $1.99: Perhaps better known as “Two-Buck Chuck”, Trader Joe’s line of super-inexpensive wines are popular in dorm rooms and luxury apartments alike–just make sure your date isn’t a die-hard Trader Joe’s shopper so your cover isn’t blown. But don’t be fooled by the price tag. This wine actually has some great qualities, and the Cab is the most flavorful — and most popular — bottle in TJ’s Charles Shaw lineup. Did we mention the price?

21. 2005 Blue Fish Riesling – $7.99: Rieslings are known to have a strong, perfumey aroma and can range from very dry to very sweet. A good German Riesling can get pretty pricey, but Blue Fish produces a reasonably priced one straight from the homeland. In addition to a cool-looking label, Blue Fish contains traces of apricot and peach.

22. 2005 Grande Maison – Cuvee des Anges (Dessert wine) – $16.49: We all know it’s fun to pair our wines with a great meal, but it’s not all about the entrée. Dessert wines make a terrific complement (or alternative) to traditional after-dinner foods. For an inexpensive dessert wine that still looks and tastes great, try Grande Maison Cuvee des Anges. The exotic name alone will be the cherry on top of your romantic dinner.

Charles Joguet’s Clos de la Dioterie Cabernet Franc has a strong, smooth flavor, and a classy name that won’t give its low price away.

1. Pat’s King of Steaks, Philadelphia
Yep, that’s Pat as in Pat Olivieri, the originator of the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Pat’s has a healthy (well, not that healthy) rivalry with Geno’s Steaks on the opposite street corner in, a storied South Philadelphia feud. Few Presidential campaigns pass through Philly without a visit to Pat’s King of Steaks. In fact, Pat’s was the setting for the Cheesesteak Fail Heard ‘Round The World when John Kerry ordered one with Swiss cheese in 2003. Some in Philly say it cost him the White House. You’ll have to endure a long wait and comply with strict ordering mandates at the front of the line, but it’s all part of the experience.

2. Phat Philly, San Francisco
Can the West Coast make a great Philly cheesesteak? They like to think so. Especially at Phat Philly in the Mission district of San Francisco. They use Kobe beef, import Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia and aren’t afraid to buck the status-quo with their own homemade cheddar beer sauce. (Don’t worry, purists; they also have Cheez Whiz.)

3. Donkey’s Place, Camden, New Jersey
Taking the Philly cheesesteak off the beaten track is Donkey’s Place of Camden, New Jersey. The trek to Camden hardly keeps foodies and cheesesteak freaks away from this steak shack, though. Donkey’s serves up their sandwiches on an unorthodox poppy Kaiser roll and offers an array of customized additions, from mushrooms and onions to olives and sweet peppers. Just think: all that flavor and you get to tell your friends you’ve been to Camden just for cheesesteak.

4. Geno’s Steaks, Philadelphia
Rounding things out is Geno’s Steaks, which sits across from rival Pat’s King of Steaks in the heart of South Philly. Like Pat’s, less is more with these veterans: just meat and cheese on an Amoroso roll is the way to go. However, if you do choose to accessorize your meat, they’ll certainly comply. Oh, and remember the whole Freedom Fries thing? Yeah, these guys actually have those on the menu.
