Is This Ad Good Enough For The Super Bowl?

At Springpad, we’ll be passing on advertising in this year’s Super Bowl. After all, this is not 1999 and we’re not Pets.com. While it’s true that some ads can still help make a company, at a price tag of close to $3M, our Super Bowl debut will have to wait.

In the meantime, we’ve taken a homemade approach to showing how Springpad can help you. The video stars a beautiful 2 year old named Ariel (who also happens to be my daughter) who thinks that there must be a better way to organize recipes than old fashioned cookbooks.

Are there any Super Bowl ads you’re looking forward to?

If you ask people if they like advertising, chances are you’ll hear a lot more “no” than “yes”. But advertising provides more value than people give it credit for. If you watch a show on Hulu or “old-fashioned” tv, advertising makes it possible for you to do that for free. Advertising lets you read your favorite blogs for free and use Google for all your searches for free. If you’ve clicked on a sponsored link, you know that advertising not only lets you do the search for free, but helped you find what you were looking for. On the internet, people often characterize ads as an annoyance they would rather not deal with, rather than give credit to them for keeping most of our favorite services free to use.

“There are a few minor downsides to Evernote. While there’s no overall limit to the amount of data you can store, you can only upload 40 megabytes a month with the free version, attach certain types of files to notes, and you are forced to view ads.”

I’d argue that this is the upside to Evernote! Read more »

If you want to set a reminder to remove this book from your home, you can spring this alarm and then personalize it to set the time and whether it’s sent by email or text message.

My 2 year old loves to read books before bed. Here are some of her favorites….
