Vacation packing, simplified

I’ll admit it: I’m have an overpacking problem. It doesn’t matter if I’m gone three days or three weeks, I’ll bring way more clothing than I need to. But since most airlines started charging to check your first bag, I’ve learned to simplify and condense my packing.

With holiday and winter break travel coming up, it’s definitely necessary to know how to pack efficiently! The long lines and additional prices are enough to convince anyone to fly with a carry-on, so here’s my advice on packing (from a former overpacker):

- Plan outfits in advance (to avoid packing things you won’t end up wearing)
- Mix and match pieces of clothing for different outfits (these tank tops are super versatile for mixing!)
- Limit your shoes/accessories
- Wear your bulkier clothes (jackets, sweatshirts, jeans, etc.) on the plane

… and check out these packing lists for more advice!

Packing carry-on luggage saves time and money at the airport, plus there’s no way for the airlines to lose your bags – definitely a great idea! What are your winter travel tips?

Thanks! I’ve been traveling pretty frequently also, so it’s a learning process – but very helpful.

  3. Great tips! It definitely makes sense to wear your bulkier items rather than trying to pack them too.

Great tips…. BUT.. if anyone is like me a carry on will not work!! Manicure set, polish remover. liquid soap, perfume… I don’t leave home without them and they won’t let me carry them on the plane either.
